Hi, today I'm going to talk about the statue of John Paul II in Bellavista.
About this project, I'm against, because I'm disagree with the character in the statue in three points:
- John Paul II wasn't a relevant character in the Chilean History. He was a pope, just a pope. Maybe for a president we will make a big statue, for example I think who Ricardo Lagos must have a statue, because he was a good president, he made the final step of the "reforma procesal penal", also he made a reform to the constitution of 1980 and he hasn't a statue, a recognition.
- John Paul II did not make a contribution to the city of Recoleta. In his participation in Chile, he avoid a possible war with Argentina, but contributions to Recoleta were none.
- And John Paul II did not represent the city, Bellavista is a bar district, Bellavista has the best School of Law in the country, in that way John Paul II statue will be a strange in the district.
I know about the project, who the statue has a height of thirteen metres and will be located in the Jose Domingo Gomez's Park.
The project will cost around 400 million of pesos and will be sponsored by Universidad San Sebastian.
The statue will has advantages and disadvantages I say a couple of these:
Advantages:
- More people will visit Bellavista district
- More tourists will arrive in Bellavista district
- Bellavista district will have more money entrances.
Disadvantages:
- Students of Law School Of Universidad de Chile will lose it's square/park
- The district will be more christian.
- Drunk people will come less
- The money entrances of the night clubs will fall.
